November 1, 2023

Dear Stewards and Friends of St. Demetrios,

I pray all is well with you and your families. There are several things I’d like to share since my last update in March 2023.

The Parish Council continues to honor its commitment toward a balanced budget. We have reduced expenses in payroll, maintenance, and landscaping. We have held two successful Church Beautification days to clean and maintain our church property. We thank our generous stewards and Philoptochos for volunteering their time, talent, and treasure as needs arise.

We continue to grow closer to our budgeted Stewardship goal of $175,000 with pledges totaling $159,860… 91.3% of our goal. If you are not a steward, please join us today. We need everyone’s help to reach our 2023 goal. We are also looking forward to the start of our 2024 Stewardship Campaign in the coming weeks.

Our Fundraising Committee has generated funds through the Jim Click Raffle, a wonderful Palm Sunday luncheon sponsored by AHEPA, and a delicious Feast Day Brunch. Our big fundraiser is December 8th-10th at the Fourth Ave Winter Street Fair where we will sell pre-packaged Greek pastries.

At our June 25th Special Parish Assembly, we took another prayerful step toward building a new church. After a presentation and discussion led by our Land and Building Committee, our stewards in good standing voted to hire eStudio Architectural Firm to design the masterplan for our new property. The Committee will now schedule a minimum of three town halls for steward input in the next few months.

Saturday, October 14th, our Capital Campaign Foundation sponsored a very successful Thanos Petrelis Under the Stars concert to raise money for our St. Demetrios Church Building Fund. The concert offered a wonderful opportunity to come together with family and friends, have fun, dance, and raise money through ticket sales, donations, and pledges.

November 10th-12th, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos will be visiting us for Manoli Aspiotis’ Sacrament of Ordination to the Diaconate. One of a parish’s greatest blessings is to witness a former youth answer the calling to enter the priesthood. Saturday, November 11th, noon to 4:00 p.m., we will host a program open to all parishioners. Details are in the weekly bulletins. Please rsvp to the office, so we can plan accordingly. Join us again Sunday, November 12th, for Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, immediately followed by the ordination, and for a special luncheon honoring Deacon Manoli at Contigo Latin Kitchen. More details to follow.

This Sunday, November 5th, we have a brief Parish Patio Update during Coffee Hour to discuss details related to several topics in this letter.

Our Fall Parish Assembly is scheduled for December 3rd, following the Divine Liturgy.

As we prepare to enter the Nativity Fast, please keep our entire parish in your prayers. As the Body of Christ, everyone is called to play a role in preserving and sharing our beautiful Orthodox faith. I give thanks to our Lord for His continued love and mercy and to all of you who continue to support our beloved St. Demetrios.

In Christ’s Service,

Bill Anastopoulos

St. Demetrios Parish Council President
